NEW YORK -- Midfielder Eric Quill was named MLS player
of the week for the period ending Sunday after helping the Tampa
Bay Mutiny end a seven-match losing streak.
The 23-year-old Quill assisted on all three goals scored by the
Mutiny in a 3-2 victory over D.C. United on Saturday. Quill is
third in the league with seven assists including six primary setups.
He already is ahead of last year's pace when he completed the
season with five goals and 11 assists as a starter. Tampa Bay
(3-10-1) is last in the Central Division standings with just 10
points.
Quill earned the award ahead of Luis Hernandez of the Los
Angeles Galaxy, who scored two goals against the MetroStars.
The MLS player of the week is selected by a panel of journalists
from the Professional Soccer Reporters Association.
