NEW YORK -- Colorado Rapids forward John Spencer was named MLS Player of the Week after he recorded his team's first-ever hat trick. The Scottish striker set club history with his three goals in a 3-1 victory over D.C. United on July 4 at Mile High Stadium. On Saturday, Spencer had an assist in Colorado's 3-1 win over San Jose. "To get a hat trick on Wednesday night, July 4, in front of 65,000 people, was definitely the highlight of my career," Spencer said. A former English Premier League player, Spencer is tied with Miami's Diego Serna for the league lead in goals with 11 in his first MLS season. He is second in scoring with 26 points.
