KINSHASA, Congo -- Tunisia became the third African nation to qualify for the 2002 World Cup, beating Congo 3-0 Sunday to join Cameroon and South Africa in the 32-nation field.

Ivory Coast, the only other nation still contending with Tunisia in Group D, was eliminated with a 1-1 tie at Republic of Congo.

Tunisia (6-0-2) went ahead on Khaled Badra's goal in the 16th minute, and Zubaya Baya added goals in the 60th and 62nd minutes against Congo (2-4-1).

At Pointe-Noire, Ivory Coast (4-0-3) needed a win to remain in contention and went ahead on Mamadou Coulibaly's goal in the 87th minute, but Sylva Bakouma tied it just a minute later on a penalty kick for Republic of Congo (1-4-2).

In other games Sunday, Togo defeated Libya 2-0 in Group A and Ghana beat Sudan 1-0 in Group C.

At Accra, Ghana (3-2-2) eliminated visiting Sudan (3-4) with a goal by Emmanuel Osei-Kuffuor in the 44th minute.

At Lome, Koffi Kossi scored for the hosts in the 28th and 43rd minutes. Cameroon clinched the Group last month.

Six slots have been filled for next year's tournament in Japan and South Korea, with the three African qualifiers joining defending champion France and the co-hosts, who all have automatic berths.

Two other African berths are to be determined.

Liberia (5-3) leads Group B with 15 points, two ahead of Nigeria (4-2-1), which can win the group with a victory at home against Ghana on July 29.

Three nations are still alive in Group C. Morocco (4-1-3), which has completed play, has 15 points, three ahead of Egypt and Senegal (both 3-1-3).
