NEW YORK -- D.C. United forward Santino Quaranta on Monday became the youngest player to be named MLS player of the week. The 16-year-old rookie scored two goals to help D.C. United beat the New England Revolution, 3-1, on Saturday. It was Quaranta's second career multi-goal game as he increased his season total to five goals in only 492 minutes. He also scored two goals in a 3-0 victory over the Kansas City Wizards on June 16. Quaranta was the eighth overall pick in the 2001 draft. He has started five matches and made 10 appearances, producing 11 points. D.C. United is 6-10-1 with 19 points and is in third place in the Eastern Division. Quaranta edged out Kansas City's Roy Lassiter, who scored two goals as the Wizards rallied to defeat Dallas, 3-2. Copyright 2001 SportsTicker Enterprises, L.P.
