ANNABA, Algeria -- Egypt's hopes of a place in next year's World Cup finals were finally ended on Saturday after Algeria snatched a goal 10 minutes from time for a 1-1 draw in their group C qualifier.

Nine minutes into the second half Ahmad Hossam converted a penalty to put Egypt 1-0 ahead, and, it seemed, into the finals in Japan and South Korea next year.

At the time, Senegal led Namibia by 3-0 in Windhoek -- a combination of scores which would have seen Egypt through to the finals on goal difference.

But Senegal got two more goals to run out 5-0 winners and Algeria's Yacine Bezzaz equalised in the 80th minute at the Annaba stadium, which saw Senegal qualify for their first World Cup finals ahead of Morocco becuase of their superior goal difference.

The 1-1 draw reflected the balance of possession and chances in a tense game in Algeria, which was delayed for 13 minutes after Egypt went ahead when Algerian fans threw missiles onto the pitch.
