Forward Landon Donovan, who matched the San Jose Earthquakes franchise record for points in a game with six, has been named MLS Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday.

Donovan scored twice and added two assists to lead the Earthquakes to a 5-1 rout of the New England Revolution on Wednesday. He tied the club mark set by current Chicago Fire forward Eric Wynalda on June 15, 1997.

Donovan, 19, has 20 points in 19 games.

A member of the United States under-20 National Team that advanced to round-of-16 at the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championships in Argentina, Donovan joined MLS from Germany's Bayer Leverkusen just before the start of the season.

Donovan, who scored an unprecedented four goals to capture MVP honors at the sixth MLS All-Star Game on July 28, became the first San Jose player to receive this weekly award since goalkeeper Joe Cannon on July 10, 2000.
