NEW YORK -- Forward Alex Pineda Chacon, who scored three goals to help the Miami Fusion record a pair of wins, was named MLS player of the week for the period ending Sunday.

Pineda Chacon, who received the award for the third time this year, netted the opener on Wednesday to give the Eastern Division-leading Fusion a 2-1 road victory over the first-place club in the Central Division, the Chicago Fire.

The Honduran, who is playing his first season in MLS, scored twice, including the go-ahead tally with 12 minutes left on Saturday, as the Fusion rallied for a 4-2 home triumph over the Dallas Burn.

With 37 points this season, Pineda Chacon sits in second place in the league's scoring race behind teammate Diego Serna, who is one of a total of four Miami players to have picked up the weekly honor this season.

Pineda Chacon beat out New England's Ted Chronopoulous for the award.
