Navesink wins Jamaica Handicap

NEW YORK -- Navesink won the $300,000 Jamaica Handicap at Belmont Park on Sunday for his fourth victory in six starts this year.

Jockey Edgar Prado rode Navesink to a 3¾-length win in the Grade II race. The winner stalked pacesetting Krieger to the stretch, then slipped through on the inside for the lead.

Navesink, carrying 118 pounds, covered the 1 1/8 miles in 1:51 2/5 on a yielding inner turf course to earn $180,000 for Jayeff B Stables.

Strategic Partner came from the rear of the seven-horse field to finish second. Baptize was another four lengths back. Krieger, One Eyed Joker, Proud Man and Reluctant Groom completed the order of finish.

Navesink returned $6.70, $4 and $2.60. Strategic Partner paid $8.10 and $3.40 and Baptize showed at $2.40.
