The usual body slams and eye pokes from the loyal opposition:
From KLDAINES:
Can someone explain to me why the Longhorns are ranked under Florida. Their only loss has been to the No. 1 Oklahoma team. Florida lost to unranked Auburn. I think this is just another example of how the polls always favor the Florida schools.
Kay El:
There's a good reason the polls "favor" the Florida schools. Combined, the three Florida schools won four national championships in the 1990s. Texas' last title was in 1970. That ranking has a lot to do with unfulfilled promise. Florida, Florida State and Miami produce titles. Texas produces some of the glossiest, glitziest media guides you'll ever see.
From WASSUP_BOBO:
Every doubter out there, Maryland has already beaten the next two best teams in the ACC -- North Carolina and Georgia Tech. Now, it will beat Florida State and Clemson.
Maybe some of you will begin to believe in the Terps. A few things to keep in mind:
North Carolina has lost to No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 7 Texas, and No. 10 Maryland.
Maryland is the top team in the ACC. Give the Terps a chance and they will prove their legitimacy.
From one bobo to another:
If the Terps were illegitimate, we've got a bigger story than we think.
From NASTYG8R:
How can Ken Dorsey possibly be a Heisman contender?
He is nowhere near the class of the names around him. He's not one of the 10 best at his position. It could be argued that Clinton Portis and Bryant McKinnie are more deserving team MVPs. His statistics are quite mediocre, save his rating, against bottom-rung competition. And no, Florida State was no test!
Gator bait:
Your loyalty is showing. You ought to be cracking your boy Rex Grossman. At least Dorsey hasn't lost yet! The Gross Man melted down at Auburn. Now the Gators are going to need a miracle to play for the national championship. All Dorsey's going to need is a limo to get to the Rose Bowl.
From BINOLAMF1:
I've just read your "column," or whatever you want to call it, and I had to laugh. You couldn't even really justify your #22 ranking of the University of Michigan. (See last week's mailbag.)
You just pointed out people's grammatical errors and spelling mistakes. Hahaha! You're a punch line. Your name is all over internet chat rooms, from East to West, and it's NEVER in a positive context.
Pretty much EVERYONE thinks you're a joke. Your argument is inane, as is your poll. You are clearly biased, and have zero credibility with anyone who knows football.
No. 22 ... are you kidding me? Let's see, a top-five strength of schedule, a top-five defense against the run nationally, one of the best scoring defenses in the land, an amazing coach, and a former #1 recruiting class that has grown into seniors. You're a laugh, Dennis, and DAMN if your picture isn't as goofy as your pathetic poll! Good luck with all of that! Hope you've got a real degree to fall back on!
Dear Mom:
Nice hearing from you.
Love,
Dennis
From NORFA:
Hey, for all you Pac-10 and Big Ten loyalists: There could still be a Michigan-UCLA Rose bowl this year.
It's time for these guys to step up and defend OUR TURF. OK, so it's a long shot, but as long as they both keep winning, there's always a chance. Even so, I would never pull for Michigan against Ohio State. They'll have to win the last one without my support.
Norad:
You want Michigan in Rose Bowl but you can't root for them. Contrarians Anonymous called. They want their membership card back ... No they don't. Yes they do. No they don't ...
From JMILLSUA:
Why is Troy State ranked No. 87 in the SportsLine 117? They are 3-3, have played a tough schedule, beat Mississippi State. What's the deal?
Jmill:
Troy State is college football's vagabond. The Trojans will play anybody, anywhere, anytime for any amount of money. And don't try to sell me Mississippi State. Last time I checked, the Bullpups were the biggest disappointment in the country. Get in a conference, get a stadium and get in a bowl. The Trojans don't deserve to be in I-A to begin with. How about Division I-Eh?
