ARCADIA, Calif. -- Golden Apples beat Dancingonice by three-quarters of a length Sunday to win the $250,000 Las Palmas Handicap at Santa Anita. Ridden by Garrett Gomez and carrying 115 pounds, Golden Apples covered 1 1/8 miles on turf in 1:46.61 and paid $7.80, $4.80 and $3.20. Dancingonice, a 17-to-1 long shot ridden by Tyler Baze, returned $14.20 and $6.40. Janet, ridden by David Flores, was another nose back in third and paid $3 to show. The Irish-bred Golden Apples has two wins and a second in three starts in the United States. The Grade II Las Palmas was her second graded victory as she won the Grade I Del Mar Oaks in August. The 3-year-old filly, who began her career in Ireland, is 3-2-1 in seven starts overall and Sunday's $150,000 purse increased her earnings to $450,199.
