ARLINGTON, Va. -- Nebraska hopes to vault to second in the Bowl Championship Series, but the Cornhuskers are behind Oregon and Colorado in the latest coaches' poll released Sunday morning. Oregon moved up one spot to second and Colorado jumped two spots to third in the latest coaches' poll, while the Cornhuskers remained in fourth, just barely behind the Buffaloes. Miami (11-0), which was idle this weekend and already is assured of playing for the national championship in the Rose Bowl on January 3, remained first in the poll. Miami received all 60 first-place votes and leads the way with 1,500 points. Tennessee (10-2) had a chance to stay second in the polls, but a 31-20 loss to Louisiana State in the Southeastern Conference championship game on Saturday night dropped the Volunteers all the way to eighth. Brigham Young (12-1), the only other ranked team in action this weekend, fell nine spots to 17th after a 72-45 loss to Hawaii. Oregon (10-1), which suffered its only loss to Stanford, took the vacated spot, jumping to second with 1,398 points. Colorado (10-2) is third with 1,337 points while the Cornhuskers are just three points behind the Buffaloes in fourth. Nebraska (11-1) ended its regular season on Thanksgiving weekend with a humiliating 62-36 loss at Colorado, which defeated Texas, 39-37, in last week's Big 12 Conference title game. The top two teams in the final BCS poll, released later on Sunday, will meet in the Rose Bowl on January 3. Florida (9-2), which lost out on its chance to play in the Rose Bowl with last week's loss to Tennessee, is fifth in this week's poll and is followed by Maryland (10-1), Illinois (10-1), Tennessee, Texas (10-2) and Oklahoma (10-2). Stanford (9-2) is 11th and is followed by LSU (9-3), Washington State (9-2), South Carolina (8-3) and Michigan (8-3). Virginia Tech (8-3) is 16th and is followed by BYU, Syracuse (9-3) Georgia (8-3) and Washington (8-3). Fresno State (11-2), Louisville (10-2), Ohio State (7-4), Florida State (7-4) and Marshall (10-2) complete the poll. Copyright 2001 SportsTicker Enterprises, L.P.
