TORONTO -- Michael Jordan proved a point by matching his career low with two points.

Jordan went 1-for-9 from the field, but Jerry Stackhouse had 28 points and the Washington Wizards beat the shorthanded Toronto Raptors 95-82 on Sunday.

Jordan, who turns 40 in February, had nine assists and eight rebounds as he matched his season high by playing 40 minutes. The Wizards were coming off ugly losses to Portland and New Jersey.

"The thing that I want everybody to understand on this team is that you don't have to score to be an impact player. My sole purpose was to rebound, assist and move the ball around," Jordan said. "Once Jerry got started offensively I wasn't really looking."

Jordan had two points in 12 minutes in a 113-96 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on April 2, 2002.

He had three assists in the final four minutes against Toronto.

"What this team needs is someone who can sacrifice their game for the betterment of the team," Jordan said. "I'm not afraid to step up and do that. We need to win. We need to get that attitude back. Somebody has to sacrifice their game. I don't mind that it's me right now."

Former Raptors forward Charles Oakley said Jordan should have received a standing ovation. Jordan is retiring and might have played his last game in Canada.

"You know that's how they are in Canada. They don't really know basketball," Oakley said. "They just come out and watch. They don't know if they're watching polo or lolo."

Kwame Brown and Larry Hughes each added 14 points for the Wizards, who never trailed after Stackhouse ignited an 11-2 run with a 3-pointer that opened the second half.

Brown had eight points in the final quarter, and the Wizards finished the game on a 10-4 run.

Jordan assisted on Hughes' jumper with 4:00 left, and later passed to Christian Laettner for a layup and a jumper, giving Washington an 89-78 lead with 2:38 left.

After Jordan stole an inbounds pass, Hughes made a jumper to give the Wizards an 11-point lead with 1:52 remaining.

Stackhouse made an off-balance jumper just as the shot clock expired to make it 93-80 with 1:15 left.

"I wasn't going to shoot. I didn't care about shooting," Jordan said. "How many points did I have? I had 20 points. Nine assists and two points."

Lindsey Hunter had 22 points for the Raptors, who were without injured All-Star Vince Carter and leading rebounder Antonio Davis. Toronto has lost four straight games and six of seven.

"Michael really got his teammates the ball at the end and it hurt us," Toronto's Morris Peterson said.

Alvin Williams, who missed Toronto's last game with a sore left ankle, had 15 points, five assists and six rebounds.

Toronto's backcourt of Williams, Hunter and Voshon Lenard combined for 34 points as the Raptors led 49-47 at halftime.

Jordan went scoreless in the first half, but had six assists.

"I think he was happy with his two points today because of the way the team played and all the other things he did," Washington coach Doug Collins said. "This was one of the best games he's played for us this year in terms of doing what needed to be done to win the game."
