SportsLine/Lindy's reports
Nov. 12, 1999

The starting five was expected to return following a season in which the preseason West favorites failed to advance to the conference tournament.

Then, point guard Jabbar Washington left school and forward Brandon Beeson suffered a knee injury and will be forced to redshirt. What's left, however, is still good enough for the Mustangs to make their long-awaited run at the West Division title.

Fast facts
Coach: Jeff Schneider -- At Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo and Overall: 55-59, 4 years

1998-99 Record: 11-16 Overall; 6-10 Big West (5th West)

Honors candidates: Chris Bjorklund, Mike Wozniak, Jeremiah Mayes

Jeff Schneider's bunch proved it could score, but winning became difficult with opponents averaging 85.1 points.

With lessons learned, another year of experience and two of the league's premier scorers in Chris Bjorklund and Mike Wozniak, expect the Mustangs to battle for the top spot in a tightly bunched West race.

Keep an eye on

Post man Chris Bjorklund. With the emergence of Jeremiah Mayes, watch for Bjorklund to find more open looks.
