Tim McDonald

San Francisco 49ers strong safety Tim McDonald stopped by to chat with CBS SportsLine fans on November 19, 1997.

Find out what Tim had to say in the full transcript of his chat below.

CBS SportsLine: Welcome to our live chat with strong safety Tim McDonald of the San Francisco 49ers. Tim, thanks for joining us today. Here's your first question...

Question: Tim, please get well soon. When do you expect to return?

Tim McDonald: Yes, I am OK. And, at the most, I'll miss the next two games. That will be the most. I'm definitely going to be out this week. And, I'm going to try to get back for the Kansas City game, but I'll be "questionable" that week.

Question: Are you using crutches?

Tim McDonald: No, I'm walking in a walking shoe. It's a special shoe for me. I was on crutches for a day and pretty sure I can run on it by next week.

Question: Was 1989 your favorite year (seven interceptions, 170 yards)?

Tim McDonald: I had a big year (1989) and a lot of interceptions. My favorite years didn't start until I left the Cardinals. I kind of knew that in order for me to have better years, I had to leave there. I became a free agent (part of the whole McNeil case). I was one of the originals from St. Louis.

Question: Can we resign Stubby next year?

Tim McDonald: The team can re-sign anyone they want. Don't believe the hype about the cap.

Question: Who will win the AFC?

Tim McDonald: Out of the AFC, I'd like to say Denver, but they need to prove that they can beat Jacksonsville.

Question: Will Jerry Rice really come back this season?

Tim McDonald: I don't know, but if anybody could really come back it would be Jerry! It would be cutting it close and will do what's best. But, with an injury like his, you never know. He runs around here everyday whispering to everyone that he's coming back on Dec. 15 and you hate to say Jerry you can't do it.

Question: What AFC team would you rather face in the Super Bowl?

Tim McDonald: The AFC in the Super Bowl, it doesn't matter, we own the AFC. The NFC owns the AFC.

Question: Are you concerned about Woodson's penalities?

Tim McDonald: I think yes, but Rod understands that he can't get penalities especially donw the stretch. It's not like he goes out there and tries to get penalized. He's working on his game. But, he's totally at the mercy of the receiver. He's had a lot of questionable calls. Teams are going to challenge him and we're going to help him put that fire out before the playoffs.

Question: What would a playoff game against Tampa be like?

Tim McDonald: I hope it happens. And, that's all I'll say to that.

Tim McDonald: Thanks for the all the questions today. Our football team will be tough to beat. You can take that to the bank! Maybe we'll do this again from San Diego. Take care.
