  • Led major league shortstops in homers for the ninth time in last 11 years and in RBI for the eighth time. Led American League shortstops in assists (495) for seventh time in his career, tying AL record. Led American League shortstops in total chances (738) for the 5th time.
  • Led the majors in at bats (641) even though he received a career-high 19 intentional walks, sixth in the AL. Had season-high 10-game hitting streak, July 7-19 (.410, 16-39). Had career-high eight three-run homers. Batted .310 (9-29) on 0-2 counts, fifth in the AL.
  • Had slow start through May 2 (.199, 37-186, 4 hr, 18 RBI in 47 games) but hit .281 (128-455) with 20 hr and 72 RBI in 115 games thereafter. Hit .229 (81-353) before the All-Star break and .292 (84-288) after.
