Roberto Clemente AwardIn 1992, Cal Ripken, Jr. was named the 22nd recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award, presented annually to the player who best exemplifies the game of baseball both on and off the field. Consideration is given to sportsmanship, community involvement and an individual's contribution to his team and baseball. Cal Ripken, Jr. was the third Oriole to win the award since its inception in 1971, joining Brooks Robinson (1972) and Ken Singleton (1982). No other major league organization has had three Clemente Award recipients.
