Blue Line COMMUNITY:
    Beginning in 1981, Mike began providing tickets to each game (Mike's MVP Section) for groups not normally able to attend a Phillies game.

    He has raised over a million dollars for the United Way since 1985 (area corporations each donate $100 for every homer Mike hits), and beginning in 1987 the program went national with players in each major league city as well as the entire Louisville Redbirds team joining the program.

CAREER MILESTONES:

1971: June 11 - Schmidt signs professional contract (Reading Phillies) three days after being taken on the second round in the June draft.

1972: September 12 - Schmidt (wearing #22) replaces Don Money in top of 3d inning vs. Mats at Veterans Stadium, his first major league game. In first at bat, last of 3d, he strikes out vs. Jim McAndrew. Two innings later, he collects his first major league hit, a single to left off McAndrew. September 16 -Hits first major league home run, a 3-run, game-winning homer in last of 7th off Montreal's Balor Moore.

1975: April 26 -Schmidt hits two home runs in 10-9 victory over Cincinnati to tie major league record for home runs in April with 11.

1976: April 17 - Schmidt ties major league record by hitting four consecutive home runs, and bats in eight runs as Phillies beat Cubs, 18-16, in ten innings after trailing, 12-1 and 13-2, tying National league record for comeback. April 20 -Schmidt hits 100th home run, at Pittsburgh off John Candelaria.

1979: May 13 - Schmidt hits 200th home run, at San Francisco, off Vida Blue, May 17 - A 10-inning classic in Wrigley Field: Phillies 23, Cubs 22. 11 homers hit, three by Dave Kingman, two by Schmidt, including game winner with two outs in top of 10th off Bruce Sutter. July 7 - Schmidt homers in final at-bat on July 6 and in first three at-bats vs. San Francisco. Second time he has homered in four consecutive plate appearances in his career.

1980: July 25 - Schmidt homers in 1st inning off Atlanta's Larry McWilliams for his 260th home run, breaking Del Ennis' club record. October 2 - Schmidt breaks own record (45, 1979) for most homers in a season for a Phillies player with his 46th. October 4 - Schmidt hits two-run homer in top of 10th at Montreal off Stan Bahnsen to give Phillies 6-4 win and National League East title. Homer was his fourth in four games, second time he's done that this month.

1981: August 14 - Schmidt hits 300th home run, at New York, off Mike Scott. September 20 -Schmidt hits his 310th home run, most for any player in Philadelphia baseball history. Jimmy Foxx hit 309 (302 with A's and 7 with Phillies). October 2- Schmidt hits 3-run pinch homer with two out in 9th to beat Cubs, 9-7, his first pinch hit home run.

1983: May28 - Schmidt strikes out first four times on 12 pitches and then hits 2-run homer in the last of ninth to beat Montreal's Jeff Reardon, 5-3. August 15 - Schmidt sets Phillies club record with seventh grand slam in 5-0 win at Chicago.

1984:May 15 - Schmidt homers to right field in 5th off Bob Welch in Los Angeles for his 400th homer.

1985:April 15 - Schmidt plays in 1,795th Phillies game break club record held by Richie Ashburn. May 29 Schmidt switches to first base, rookie Rick Schu brought up from Portland to play third base. September 23,Schmidt hits 30th homer, llth time in career he's hit 30 or more in a season to trail only: Jimmie Foxx (12), Babe Ruth (13), and Hank Aaron (15).

1986:April 26 - Schmidt drives in 1,287th run to break Ed Delahanty's all-time Phillies record.

1987:April 17 -Schmidt homers at 4:53 p.m. on 3-0 pitch off Don Robinson in Pittsburgh to become the 14th player to reach 500 homers. Three-run homer in the 9th beats the Pirates, 8-6. May 12 - Schmidt scores his 1,366th run to break Ed Delahanty's all-time club record. June 14 -Schmidt hits three homers, drives in six, as Phillies win, 11-6, in Montreal. September 15 - Schmidt hits 30th home run to tie NL record of Eddie Mathews with ninth consecutive season of 30 or more. September 20 - Schmidt hits 487th home run as a third baseman (off Tandy St. Claire in Montreal) to break major league record for a third baseman held by Eddie Mathews.

1988:May 20 - Schmidt hits 535th HR off Andy Hawkins in SD to move into 8th place on the all-time list ahead of Jimmie Foxx. July 14- Schmidt hits 537th home run (off Houston's Mike Scott) to pass Mickey Mantle for 7th place on the all-time list. July26- Schmidt plays in 2,155th game at third base to break Eddie Mathews' all-time NL record. August 4 - Schmidt's first inning double off Jose DeLeon in St. Louis is his 1,000th extra base hit.

1989:April 20 - Schmidt doubles in lst inning at Pittsburgh off Mike Dunne to break Richie Asburn's club record (2,217) for most career hits. May 2 - Schmidt hits 548th and last home run, 1st inning at Veterans Stadium off Houston's Jim Deshaies. May 17 - Schmidt's final at bat at Veterans Stadium, 8th inning strike out against San Francisco's Rick Reuschel. May 25 -Schmidt gets last major league hit, 8th inning bunt single in Los Angeles off Tim Belcher. May 28 - Schmidt walks in 9th inning in San Francisco off Terry Mulholland in last at bat.
