Last player to lead NL two years running, Willie McCovey of the Giants, 1968-69. Just missed being the sixth player to hit 30 HR and steal 30 bases, an elite group of Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Bobby Bonds, Ken Williams and Tommy Harper
Hit .290 second half of season with 24 HR
Best month was August when he belted 12 round trippers
22 HR came at Veterans Stadium tying Deron Johnson's 1971 record for most HR at Vet in a season
Had 8 HR against both Chicago and San Diego; also had 18 RBI vs Cubs
Finished second to Ken Reitz for Gold Glove (missed award by one vote)
Stole 29 bases in 41 attempts; has 52 steals in 76 attempts past two seasons
For second straight year, received Mel Ott award, symbolic of NL Home King
Led club in game-winning RBI (15)
Led league in strikeouts (180) for second straight year
Missed two games in June after spraining rotator cuff in left shoulder attempting to steal a base
Started five games at shortstop following injuries to Bowa and Harmon
