Mark Kotsay
Mark Kotsay has been the only Marlin bright spot. (Allsport)
This season is no different and much of the talk early on surrounded the Oakland A's outfielder Ben Grieve and the Diamondbacks first baseman Travis Lee. Both of these players have proved, early on, that some of that hype was well-deserved. They both have played very well and are atop the rookie leaders in all major categories.

Almost every year the most interesting development surrounding the rookie class comes when the underrated start overproducing!

Everyone knows who Kerry Wood is now after that amazing domination of the Houston Astros earlier this season. But another NL pitcher, Masato Yoshii of the New York Mets, has gotten off to a very good start, too. Yoshii has put up a 4-1 record for the Mets and has an era around 2.33 and is one of the main reasons the Mets' era has been around the tops in the majors all season. He has been a solid addition to their starting rotation and has made Met fans forget about the injuries to former phenoms Jason Isringhausen, Paul Wilson and Bill Pulsipher.

Another newcomer who has made a big splash this season without much fanfare has been Marlins' outfielder Mark Kotsay. Kotsay has been one of the few bright spots for the dreadful Florida Marlins this season. Kotsay is batting around .300 for the fish and is among the rookie leaders in hits, RBI and runs scored. He showed last year that he has a great glove and is continuing with his fielding heroics this season.

These two players have proven that it isn't preseason hype that matters but what you do on the field during the season that gives you a chance at that Rookie Of the Year Award. Fantasy owners beware though, because that award does not always guarantee future success. Anyone seen Pat Listach lately.
