'Wood and Then Some' May 29, 1998

Steve Pond of Raleigh, NC plays in a homemade points league and is a huge Met's fan. His favorite player of all time is Wally Backman, who was around before Fantasy baseball was so big!

you have to look at first-year full-timers Bobby Abreu and Desi Relaford, both hitting around .300 for a suprisingly overachieving Phillies ballclub.

Another "rookie" to be proud of is the Mets' Japanese import Masato Yoshii, who gives the Amazins a solid, dependable arm in the five spot of their rotation.

Chris Widger has adapted nicely to the full-time catcher role in Montreal while Richard Hidalgo is developing into a solid center fielder under the guidance of Derek Bell and Moises Alou in Houston.

Jesus Sanchez, acquired in the Al Leiter trade with New York jumped from Double-A to emerge as the de-facto Ace of the Florida Marlins' staff while holdover Livan Hernandez continues to be unreliable and erratic. Finally David Dellucci is developing into the outfielder that Baltimore thought he would, only he's doing it in Arizona.
