Jim Flick,
of Nicklaus/Flick Golf Schools, headquartered in
North Palm Beach Florida presents advice on how to cure the slice.
The first thing I would
do to cure a slice is to make sure the
hands are on the golf club in a manner that makes you
gain a release of the club head. I encourage you to check
and
make sure that the club is placed deep into the fingers of
the
left hand.
The left thumb is
placed on the grip at about one third on the
side of the shaft and not straight up and down.
I also encourage that the
palm of the right hand fits the palm
of your left hand.
If you make a mistake with this grip make sure that your
right
hand grip is turned too far to the right which will
encourage
better hand action.
Most people slice because their body overworks at the
change of direction or transition, which puts them ahead
of
the club head with their grip end dragging the club head
end
with an open face.
To fix a slice, I would have you do the Back To Target Drill.
Take your regular starting position; check your grip and
grip
pressure; and then turn your feet...
...so that youre facing backwards. Then make your golf swing
related to where you want your club to swing and not
related
to your body position. Youll be surprised because from
this
position youll swing the club up and down.
You'll feel the club head
pass you and youll begin to draw
your golf ball. Remember the reason you slice is
because the club face is open at impact.
That is with the grip end out in front of the club head end.
Youre looking for a way to get the club head end to pass
and
rotate over. I promise that the Back To Target Drill will
help eliminate the slice.
