About the kookaburra
Measuring between 42 and 46 centimeters and weighing in at over half a kilogram, the kookaburra is the largest member of the kingfisher family. With its large strong beak, variegated brown feathers and white-grey belly — males sport distinctive iridescent blue markings on their wings — the kookaburra is a familiar sight across both rural and urban Australia. It moves with a family group and lives on a diet of small mammals, snakes, lizards and insects.
