Kim Rhode claimed her second Olympic medal today, walking away with the bronze in women’s double trap.

The California woman fought a hard battle against Pia Hansen, who could do no wrong as she set an Olympic record in the qualifying round with 112 targets and an Olympic finals record of 36 targets for a total of 148. Rhode matched her in the final, but her score of 103 in the qualifying gave her a nine-target deficit the hard-hitting Swede would not relinquish.

“She just shot a really good match,” Rhode said in an interview. “I’m happy with how I shot, but it was her day, and it was her match.”

Rhode remains as awed as ever by the spectacle of the Olympic Games, despite having already won a gold medal in double trap in 1996.

“I’m just having a blast. You get out and do things, meet people, see the other athletes. It’s just an incredible experience. This Olympics and this medal are a totally separate event from Atlanta. I came here to compete in this match and I got the bronze, and I’m happy with that.”
