In a triathlon, athletes swim, ride a bike and run.
First, they swim almost a mile in the sea.
Then, they ride a bicycle for about 25 miles.
After they ride their bikes, they run a little over 6 miles.
They change their clothes quickly between each part of the race.
The winner is the first person to finish the race.
Women are expected to finish in just over two hours. Men in about 1 hour, 50 minutes.
To be in the triathlon, you must be very fit. Athletes who do this sport are called triathletes.
The Sydney 2000 Games will be the first Olympic Games with triathlon events.
The triathlon has only been around for 27 years, the youngest sport in the Olympics.
