Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps keeps you prepared for just about anything. Research suggests that it may enhance the body's immune - system function, support muscle healing, tissue repair and improved resistance to infection. Most important for athletes is that it also may support healthy connective tissue by aiding ligament and tendon synthesis. For maximum effectiveness, Vitamin C supplements should be taken in equal doses, twice daily. Avoid using chewable vitamin C supplements as they can damage tooth enamel. Do not take aspirin with Vitamin C together, as stomach acidity can occur - possibly leading to ulcers. Dietary sources include citrus fruits: orange, grapefruits, cantaloupe and vegetables like broccoli, pepper, and potatoes.
