First round: CHICAGO -- Rashod Johnson made eight 3-pointers, converting one into a go-ahead four-point play with 1:31 left, as Western Michigan blew a big lead before regrouping to beat Clemson 75-72 Friday in the Midwest Regional.

Johnson tied the region record with his eight 3s and finished with 32 points as Western (21-7), seeded 11th, made its first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 1976 a memorable one.

Clemson (18-14), the sixth seed, rallied from 16 points behind in the second half to take a lead but couldn't take control of the game.

Did you know: Clemson went 4-3 in February, its first winning February since 1989-90.
