Second round: OKLAHOMA CITY -- Only Hoosiers might know Valparaiso is in Indiana. Now everyone is sure where the Crusaders are headed -- to the round of 16.
Valparaiso took another big step in its surprise run by beating Florida
State 83-77 on Sunday, sending the smallest school in the NCAA Tournament to
its first regional semifinal.
Bob Jenkins and Antanas Vilcinskas made follow shots in the final two minutes
of overtime as Valparaiso won its 13th straight game. The Crusaders (23-9) will
play the winner of Sunday's Kansas-Rhode Island game in St. Louis next Friday.
First round: OKLAHOMA CITY -- Florida State played the way it did early in the year, which was more than good enough to beat Texas Christian.
The 12th-seeded Seminoles, criticized by some for even being in the NCAA
tournament, proved they belong Friday by outrunning the run-and-gun Horned
Frogs 96-87 in the first round of the Midwest Regional.
Corey Louis and Randell Jackson scored 20 points each, and Louis had 13
rebounds as the Seminoles (18-13) advanced to the second round where they will
meet No. 13 seed Valparaiso on Sunday.
Did you know: The 17 wins in the
regular season are the most for Florida State in five years.
