Second round: HARTFORD, Conn. -- Michigan State had Mateen Cleaves and some pretty good defense. Princeton had one of its worst shooting games of its best season ever.
The former is on the way to the third round of the NCAA tournament. The
latter heads home heartbroken but with the respect few teams from its league
have ever had.
Cleaves, the Big Ten player of the year, had 27 points on 9-for-13 shooting,
nine rebounds and five assists as the fourth-seeded Spartans beat Princeton
63-56 Saturday in the second round of the East Regional.
First round: HARTFORD, Conn. -- Princeton started the postseason by playing the same way it did in putting up the country's best record in the regular season.
The fifth-seeded and eighth-ranked Tigers used the 3-pointer, a few backdoor
cuts and some pretty good defense to beat UNLV 69-57 Thursday night in the
opening round of the East Regional.
Princeton extend the nation's longest winning streak to 20 games by
overcoming some early shooting problems and closing the first half with a 20-2
run for a 35-22 lead.
Did you know: The Tigers' class
of '98 won more games than any previous Princeton class.
