Elite Eight: ST. LOUIS -- Arthur Lee, the little guy on a huge team, carried Stanford
to the Final Four for the first time in five decades.
In a riveting comeback, Stanford unraveled Rhode Island's dream season as
Lee scored 13 of his 26 points in the final 2:04 and made a steal that led to a
critical basket.
The third-seeded Cardinal rallied from a six-point deficit with 59 seconds
left to beat the No. 8 seed 79-77 for the Midwest Regional title.
Sweet 16: ST. LOUIS -- After the horn sounded and the hugs were exchanged, only
one of the famous fathers -- and none of their sons -- could wear an ear-to-ear
smile. Rhode Island coach Jim Harrick has another game to play.
For Valparaiso's Homer, Bryce and Scott Drew, as well as for Jim Harrick
Jr., their incredible, improbable NCAA ride is over.
Antonio Reynolds-Dean scored 16 points and made three big defensive plays
down the stretch Friday night, leading Rhode Island to a 74-68 victory over
Valparaiso in the Midwest Regional semifinals.
Second round: OKLAHOMA CITY -- Rhode Island's quickness gave No. 2 Kansas its quickest NCAA tournament exit in six years.
The Rams, behind the play of guards Cuttino Mobley and Tyson Wheeler, beat the top-seeded Jayhawks 80-75 Sunday to stop Kansas' string of five straight
trips to the regional semifinals.
Moblry had 27 points on 10-of-19 shooting, while Wheeler scored 20 and had eight assists to cap a weekend of upsets in this subregional. The Rams (24-8) will play 13th-seeded Valparaiso in the next round. Valparaiso beat Florida State, 83-77.
First round: OKLAHOMA CITY -- Antonio Reynolds-Dean had 16 points, seven rebounds and four blocks Friday night as Rhode Island rolled to a 97-74 victory over Murray
State in the first round of the NCAA Midwest Regional.
Rhode Island (23-8) will play Kansas on Sunday.
It was expected to be a close game, but the eighth-seeded Rams surged to a
44-24 halftime lead as No. 9 Murray State shot only 27 percent from the field
and the Racers never threatened in the second half.
Did you know: Wheeler is an intern
in the school's sports information department.
