Gumbel returns to CBS Sports where he will serve as a host and play-by-play announcer for the network's lead NFL announce team. Gumbel worked for CBS from October 1989 through May 1994. He hosted The NFL Today -- the network’s pre-game, halftime and post-game NFL program -- from 1990 to 1993. In addition, he served as prime time anchor of CBS Sports’ coverage of the 1994 Olympic Winter Games and as co-anchor for the network’s weekday morning broadcasts of the 1992 Olympic Winter Games. His other host roles have included Major League Baseball and college football broadcasts for CBS Sports.

What is a perfect day?
One which has a sunrise and a sunset. And you work well, play well and laugh often in between.

What is your pet peeve?
The pompous and overbearing attitudes of religious fanatics, the military and your basic politician.

Who do you most admire? Why?
My wife. Not only did she tolerate me, but she made me into something respectable.

Name something you had a chance to do in your life but didn't and wish you had?
Pursue the serious study of music.

If your car hit a parked car and you were sure no one was watching, what would you do?
I'd leave a note. My dad raised me too well for me to sneak away.

What in your life are you most grateful for?
My family and the opportunity to provide for them and me, and my friends.

Who makes you laugh?
Howard Stern, Chris Rock, Larry Miller, Paula Poundstone, Peter Sellers and Richard Pryor.

If I were to push "play" on your CD player, what would be playing?
"Sticky Fingers" by the Rolling Stones.

You have to fly across country, who would you like to sit next to?
Keith or Mick or Ronnie or Charlie.

What do you like best about your life?
The opportunity to meet and know people I have long admired and the ability to maintain friendships with the ones I love.

What do you like least about your life?
Being a "known" face and personality.

If you're talking to someone who has something between their teeth, what do you do?
I tell them right away.

Is there something about yourself that you would like to change?
My ridiculous tendency to try to please every person on the planet.

It's your last meal, where and what do you eat?
The veal chop at Elaine's in New York City.

What is your favorite place in the world?
The island of St. Maarten.

If you could be someone of the opposite sex, would you and who would it be?
No, I would not.

If you could be someone else for a day, who would it be?
Keith Richards.
