Jason Woolley By Allyson Turner In his second season with Buffalo, Jason Woolley leads all Sabres defensemen with 13 points and is tied for the overall team lead with 11 assists. He recorded his 100th NHL assist on Oct. 24 vs. the N.Y. Islanders. Woolley played three seasons with Michigan State and was a member of the 1990 NCAA national championship team. He then spent one season with Team Canada and won a silver medal in the Olympics in 1992. Woolley spent the first three years of his pro career with the Washington Capitals; he was their fourth-round pick in the 1989 entry draft. After a two-year stint with the Florida Panthers, he was traded to Pittsburgh with Stu Barnes for Chris Wells. The Sabres acquired him from the Penguins in 1997 for a fifth-round draft choice. Woolley also played baseball and was the first baseman on the Canadian Junior Team that won a bronze medal in the 1990 World Championships.
