Last year, Penn State gained the No. 1 ranking with a victory over Ohio State at State College, Pa. In the rainy rematch at Columbus, Ohio, the Buckeyes (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) backed up their No. 1 ranking with a dominating defensive performance against the Nittany Lions (3-1, 0-1). "We wanted to redeem ourselves from that embarrassment last year," Rudzinski said. "We had the same players back and wanted to step up and show the country." Saturday's Top 25 highlights: No. 1 Ohio State 28, No. 7 Penn State 9COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Buckeyes (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) allowed the first three points of the game but rebounded to grab a 14-3 lead by halftime and extended it to an 18-point cushion with Cooper's touchdown 2:16 into the third quarter. This was the third consecutive time these teams met as unbeatens ranked in the Top 10. Ohio State got the better of the Nittany Lions (3-1, 0-1) this time around, avenging last season's loss. It was the defense that stopped Penn State through the rain on a slick field, allowing just 181 total yards. Ohio State running back Michael Wiley finished with 62 yards on 19 carries and added 31 yards on five catches. Buckeyes quarterback Joe Germaine completed 16-of-30 passes for 213 yards, a touchdown and one interception. No. 2 Nebraska 24, Oklahoma State 17KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Nebraska's defense stopped Nathan Simmons on the 1-yard line as time ran out, giving the second-ranked Cornhuskers a 24-17 victory over Oklahoma State and extending the nation's longest major-college winning streak to 19 games. Oklahoma State, seeking its first victory over Nebraska since 1961, faced a fourth-and-4 at the Huskers' 12-yard line with 14 seconds left. But Tony Lindsay kept the drive alive, hitting Sean Love with an 11-yard pass. Lindsay then spiked the ball to stop the clock with five seconds left. On the final play, Simmons ran up the middle but was stopped by Mike Rucker and a swarm of defenders. No. 3 Tennessee 17, Auburn 9AUBURN, Ala. -- Defensive end Shaun Ellis rumbled 90 yards for a touchdown on an interception return and Jamal Lewis added a 67-yard scoring run as Tennessee held off a furious Auburn rally.Jeff Hall added a 46-yard field goal as Tennessee (4-0, 2-0 SEC East) scored all of its points in the first quarter. Auburn bounced back on field goals of 40, 44 and 45 yards by Robert Bironas, but could not find the end zone in the rematch of last season's SEC championship game. No. 4 UCLA 49, Washington State 17PASADENA, Calif. -- Washington State played in its first Rose Bowl game in 67 years last New Year's Day. If what happened Saturday is an accurate indication, the Cougars won't be returning any time soon. Jermaine Lewis, making the most of an opportunity for redemption, rushed for 94 yards on 15 carries and scored two touchdowns as No. 4 UCLA took command early in rolling to a 49-17 victory against the Cougars. Keith Brown also ran for two TDs, and Cade McNown ran for one score, passed for another, and completed 14 of 27 passes for 205 yards. Carter quieted the huge Tiger Stadium crowd by leading Georgia (4-0, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) to touchdowns on its first three possessions and 436 total yards. No. 8 Florida 16, Alabama 10TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Travis McGriff caught nine passes for 213 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown reception from Jesse Palmer, as Florida (4-1, 2-1 SEC) held off rival Alabama. Tailback Terry Jackson rushed for 135 yards but was stuffed on 4th-and-1 to give Alabama (2-2, 1-2) a last chance with 45 seconds left from its own 26-yard line. No. 23 (tie) Notre Dame 35, Stanford 17SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Fighting Irish finally got the first half they've been looking for.Outscored 79-23 in the opening half of its first three games, Notre Dame scored on its first three possessions, while Jarious Jackson ran for 100 yards and threw for 163 more, as the Irish beat Stanford. Notre Dame's previous slow starts paralleled Jackson's early troubles. He came into the game completing just 39.5 percent of his first-half passes and averaging 5.6 yards on the ground. But he was 6-of-8 to open the game and ran for 71 yards as Notre Dame (3-1) jumped out to a 28-3 lead, its first halftime lead of the season. No. 23 (tie) Missouri 35, Northwestern State 14COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Devin West ran for 176 yards and three touchdowns as Missouri overcame a sloppy effort to stop Northwestern State.The game was the first for Missouri (3-1) since losing by an identical 35-14 score to No. 1 Ohio State two weeks ago. Facing Northwestern State (4-1), a member of Division I-AA, the Tigers seemed sluggish early and led only 14-0 at halftime. Missouri, which entered the game as the nation's top rushing team with 310 yards per game, gained 260 Saturday as it won for the fourth straight time at home. No. 25 Michigan 12, Iowa 9IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Jay Feely, who had a career day kicking the ball last week, booted a 22-yard fourth quarter field goal Saturday as No. 25 Michigan escaped with a 12-9 win over Iowa. The Wolverines (3-2, 2-0 Big Ten) overcame sloppy play and turnovers to win their third consecutive game and continue their mastery over Iowa (2-3, 1-1). Michigan has won six straight games in the series and is 13-3-1 at Kinnick Stadium. Iowa has not beaten the Wolverines at home since a 12-10 win in 1985.
