Week 8 with the Wiseguys
Oct. 24, 1998
All is not well in Buckeye-land. Saturday's victory over Northwestern reveals Ohio State's poor kicking game, which doesn't matter against the dregs of the Big 10 but will be decisive when the games get close. After getting burned by Syracuse's Donovan McNabb and Notre Dame's Jarius Jackson earlier this season, the Wolverines weren't about to let Indiana's option QB Antwaan Randle El run by them. UCLA encountered a tough challenge in California's defense. But thanks to QB Cade McNown, the Bruins kept their undefeated season, and championship hopes, alive. Don't feel sorry for Terry Bowden, he'll land on his feet. As for Auburn, its program is headed for dark days. Jeff Sagarin combined his love of mathematics and sports to create the Sagarin college football ratings in September, 1972. And now his ratings are a major component of the new BCS system.
