Cowboys, reeling from a 35-20 loss at Tulsa last week, ignited their running game Saturday to beat No. 25 Mississippi State 42-23.

"Our main goal was to get our respect back after that last loss," Oklahoma State tackle David Camacho said. "We came out today and showed everybody what we have."

"We feel like they felt last week," Mississippi State coach Jackie Sherrill said. "So it's very simple. There were a lot of areas where we did not perform, and we will correct that."

"WE DECIDED THIS WEEK to cut back on some of the things we called (at Tulsa) and just get back to fundamental football in terms of running," Cowboys coach Bob Simmons said. "We didn't ask the kids to make a lot of decisions. This week, you saw a completely different team."

Tony Lindsay ran for two touchdowns and threw for 201 yards for the Cowboys (2-1), who took charge in the third quarter by scoring two touchdowns to overcome a 17-14 deficit. Jamaal Fobbs ran 55 and 3 yards for touchdowns, Brian Aikins had a 3-yard TD run and Nathan Simmons ran 11 yards for a score as Oklahoma State pulled away.

The Bulldogs (2-1) collapsed on defense, allowing Oklahoma State 561 yards, its best outing in 10 years. Oklahoma State ran for 360 yards against a defense that had been allowing only 71.5 a game.

Oklahoma State, meanwhile, allowed the Bulldogs 267 yards and held leading rusher James Johnson to 38 yards.

Backup quarterback Wayne Madkin threw for 175 yards for Mississippi State but had two passes intercepted. Starter Matt Wyatt also had a pass picked off.

OKLAHOMA STATE TOOK A 7-0 lead on its first possession, a 70-yard drive capped by Lindsay's 4-yard scamper into the end zone with 9:09 to go in the first quarter.

Mississippi State tied it when Adesola Badon blocked Scott Elder's punt with 17 seconds left in the quarter, picked up the loose ball and ran 21 yards for the touchdown.

The Bulldogs edged ahead 10-7 on Brian Hazlewood's 49-yard field goal, four plays after linebacker Bert Keys intercepted Lindsay's pass at the Oklahoma State 37.
