Miech, a Milwaukee native, was forever altered by two events. In 1971, idol Kareem Abdul-Jabbar led his beloved Bucks to what he thought would be the first of many NBA titles. Then, in '75, the Bucks dealt Abdul-Jabbar to the L.A. Lakers in a mega-deal, promptly bringing down the sky-hooking poster in Miech's basement. And in '79, Miech moved to L.A. with his family. There, he cringed as Abdul-Jabbar led the Lakers to five championships. Miech knew the pen was his future when about 79 others joined him in a tryout for one walk-on spot at San Diego State. He wrote about all of the major sports in Los Angeles for area newspapers for 11 years, with extensive coverage of college basketball and football, until landing at SportsLine.com in September 1998. Kareem -- if you need a co-author for an upcoming biography, don't call Miech.
