| Outlook | New head coach Fernando Clavijo
gives the Revs a whole new look for 2000.
Gone to Europe are forwards Joe-Max Moore and
Giovanni Savarese, and retired GK/coach Walter
Zenga. New arrivals include explosive yet inconsistent forwards Eduardo Hurtado and Wolde
Harris along with temperamental Mauricio Ramos from
Tampa.
With midfield regulars Leonel Alvarez, John
Harkes, Johnny Torres and left-sided Ivan
McKinley, New England could have the best
all-around offense in the league. It will be Clavijo's
chore to get this diverse and high potential group of personalities to fit
together.
Defensive speed might be the Revs' one weakness with Olympian Brian Dunseth,
either McKinley or veteran enforcer Dan Calichman, Ted Chronopolous, and Rusty Pierce until
Mike Burns returns from injury.
Goalkeeper Scott Budnick was brought in to challenge Jeff Causey in goal,
but a late move to acquire Columbus' Juergen
Sommer should make the spot very competitive once he returns to full fitness.
New England should finally be competitive this year, giving MLS' best fans
reason to celebrate. |
