Outlook Head coach Bob Gansler replaced eccentric Ron Newman after an 0-7 start for the Wizards, leveling them out but still finishing a distant last. This year should prove just as challenging. U.S. soccer poster boy Alexi Lalas called it quits and retired from the game at the end of last season. Newcomer Danish international striker Miklos Molnar will pair with a solid Alex Bunbury up front which could be an imposing duo in the attack. Trinidadian newcomer Gary Glasgow will need to fit into the offensive mix as well. Gansler has confirmed that 37-year-old Preki will be used coming off the bench despite being last year's leading scorer. After that, the Wizards don't have much else to offer. Midfielder Chris Henderson is talented but underachieving, while Mo Johnston's play has deteriorated along with his speed. Top draft pick Nick Garcia should see plenty of playing time in a defense that includes the elder Peter Vermes, Uche Okafor and Matt McKeon and GK Tony Meola. The Wizards will be a team with two good forwards and nobody to get them the ball.
Projected 2000 FinishFourth in West
