SAN DIEGO (AP) Chris Corazzini scored two goals to help Canada tie Costa Rica 2-2 in the opening game for both countries in the Gold Cup 2000 on Sunday.

Corazzini, who earlier scored on a penalty kick, converted on a bicycle kick off a pass from Jason Devos for a 2-2 tie in the 57th minute of the Group D game.

The tying goal came just three minutes after Harold Wallace put Costa Rica ahead 2-1 on a shot from near the right side of the goal, taking a pass from Hernan Medford.

Costa Rica, which finished with a 14-8 edge in shots on goal, opened the scoring in the 11th minute on a 10-yard header by Jafet Soto off a crossing pass from Wilmer Lopez on the left side.

Mexico, the three-time defending Gold Cup champion, was scheduled to start Group C play against Trinidad and Tobago in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader.

Canada will continue group play against Korea on Tuesday and Costa Rica will face Korea on Thursday. Trinidad and Tobago will next meet Guatemala on Tuesday and Mexico will play Guatemala on Thursday.
