HENLEY-ON-THAMES, England (AP) Dartmouth became the first U.S. crew to make the finals at the Henley Royal Regatta on Saturday, beating Yale in the semifinals of the Ladies Plate eights event.

Dartmouth defeated Yale by 1¾ lengths and will face Princeton or Syracuse in the final.

There were mixed results for scullers from Potomac in Washington.

Doug Sanders and Brett Wilkinson beat a Dutch crew from Hollandia Roeiclub to advance to the semifinals of men's double sculls. But in the same event, clubmates Todd Beyreuther and Sean Gorman lost to the local Leander Club.

In the men's quadruple sculls semifinal, Potomac lost by 1¾ lengths to a combined team from Nottinghamshire County in England and the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia.

In the Princess Royal Cup for women single scullers, Kirsten Goodritch lost easily to Sydney Olympic bronze medalist Katrin Rutschow-Stomposowski of Germany.
