ROTTERDAM, Netherlands (Ticker) -- Entering Thursday's second leg of the UEFA Cup semifinals, there still remained the possibility of an all-Milan final. However, Feyenoord Rotterdam and Borussia Dortmund took care of that.

Feyenoord held on for a 2-2 home draw with Inter Milan, winning the semifinal via 3-2 aggregate. They can claim the UEFA Cup title with another win in the final on the field at DeKuip on May 8.

Their opponent will be Borussia, the German side which parried a reckless charge by hosts AC Milan to shakily claim the semifinal on a 5-3 aggregate. AC Milan had dug themselves a huge hole by losing the first leg, 4-0, then nearly stormed back before international competition standout Lars Ricken sealed matters for the visitors.

Inter and AC are bitter intracity rivals who regularly meet in the prestigious Serie A Italian League. A UEFA Cup final meeting would have turned the northern Italian city upside down, but AC Milan made that unlikely with their poor first showing.

Borussia coach Matthias Sammer, a former Inter Milan star, admitted his squad already was looking past Thursday's match at San Siro.

"Now that everything seems settled, the idea of the final gets the blood racing," he said prior to the match.

AC refused to concede defeat. The gallant Italians, in front of a barren home crowd of just over 15,000, raced out of the blocks to set up a fascinating encounter.

Filippo Inzaghi scored for the Italians at the 11-minute mark, putting a home a trademark cross from Serginho. Eight minutes later, Dortmund goalkeeper Jens Lehmann failed to hold a free kick by Andrea Pirlo, and Cosmin Contra tucked away the rebound for a 2-0 lead.

Dortmund mustered little offense and remained uninspired in the second half. However, they kept AC off the board until injury time, when Inzaghi was felled in the area by Christoph Metzelder. Serginho coolly tucked the ball away from 12 yards, reducing the aggregate deficit to one.

Ricken casually demoralized the home team two minutes into added time with a shot from the edge of the area that beat goalkeeper Christian Abbiati.

Ricken often saves his best games for the biggest ones. He built his reputation on the international stage with the winning goal for Dortmund in the 1997 Champions League final.

Feyenoord faced a similar fight after escaping with a 1-0 win in Milan in the first leg.

First-half goals from Pierre van Hooijdonk and Jon Dahl Tomasson extended the aggregate advantage and turned Inter into a desperate squad.

Despite pressing the attack, Inter did not strike until the 85th minute, when Cristiano Zanetti tallied. Mohamed Kallon's stoppage-time penalty kick salvaged a draw but was too little, too late.
