San Jose, Apr 30 (EFE).- English physicians on Tuesday said Manchester City striker Paulo Cesar Wanchope will be at full strength in plenty of time for Costa Rica's debut at the 2002 World Cup. The Costa Rican playmaker has been sidelined for more than two months with an injury to his right knee. Wanchope, 25, "has already recovered strength in his injured leg and is making a marked recovery," the Costa Rican Soccer Federation said in a press release. Federation officials said doctors expect Wanchope to be at "100 percent of his abilities" at least one week before Costa Rica's June 4 opener against China. Costa Rican team doctors are keeping abreast of Wanchope's progress. Defenseman and team captain Reynaldo Parks, winger Jervis Drummond and veteran striker Hernan Medford are all nursing injuries and expected to recover in time for international soccer's premier tournament. Costa Rica is matched with Brazil, China and Turkey in Group C of the World Cup. The Central Americans will take on Colombia on May 9 in a friendly match two days before leaving for Japan and South Korea. Copyright © 2002 SportsTicker Enterprises, L.P. |
