SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Parker Bohn III on Monday was named the runaway winner of the Schenkel PBA Player of the Year Award, earning 83 percent of the votes from his peers. Bohn also won the award in 1999 and becomes the ninth bowler to capture the prestigious honor more than once. "Winning for a second time is more special because it proves the first wasn't a fluke," Bohn said. "There are players of the year every season, but very few have won it more than once. That puts me in more of an elite category." Pete Weber was second with 10 percent of the vote. Also receiving votes were Chris Barnes, Jason Couch, Michael Haugen Jr., Patrick Healey Jr., Doug Kent, Brian Voss and Walter Ray Williams Jr. Bohn, 38, led the Tour with five wins in 2001-02, matching a personal single-season record set in 1999. He also had one second-place finish and three thirds. The highlight of Bohn's five wins was the first major championship of his 17-year career -- the ABC Masters in Reno, Nevada. He led the Tour in earnings ($245,200), championship round appearances (9) and match play appearances (25). Bohn ranks fourth all-time with 29 career titles. In the process, he became the second-most winning lefthander in PBA history, passing Mike Aulby and trailing only Earl Anthony's 41 titles. The award carries the name of longtime television announcer Chris Schenkel, who provided commentary for the PBA Tour for 36 years and was elected to the PBA Hall of Fame in 1976.
