MONTGOMERY, W.Va. (AP) Drew Catlett, who was the interim coach at West Virginia for the final five games last season, signed a contract Friday to become head basketball coach at West Virginia University Tech.

Drew Catlett moved from assistant to interim coach at West Virginia when his Gale Catlett, his uncle, retired on Feb. 14, in his 24th season with the Mountaineers program.

Catlett was West Virginia's winningest coach, compiling a 439-276 record. In 30 years as a college coach, he was 565-320. The Mountaineers were 8-15 when he retired and went 0-5 under Drew Catlett.

Tech athletic director Mike Springston said Catlett will replace Steve Tucker, who resigned earlier this year.

Tech, a Division II member of the NCAA, plays in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
