LOS ANGELES (AP) Stanford won the NCAA women's water polo title Sunday, beating defending champion UCLA 8-4 behind tournament MVP Jackie Frank's 12-save performance.

Julie Gardner and Ellen Estes each scored twice for the top-seeded Stanford (23-2), which led 4-1 at halftime. Wendy Watkins, Kelly Luber, Brenda Villa and Jeanine Jackson added goals.

"We had a great feeling from the beginning," Stanford coach John Tanner said. "We came out and made plays. We were anchored by Jackie, who was the key to the win."

Natalie Golda had three goals for UCLA (22-4), which beat Stanford 5-4 last year in the inaugural NCAA final and 11-7 two weeks ago in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship.

"You can't give a great team like Stanford a three-goal lead and come back and make a game out of it," UCLA coach Adam Krikorian said. "But we never gave up. Stanford put away its shots and we didn't."

In the third-place game, Lucy Windes scored four goals as Loyola Marymount beat Michigan 6-4. Loyola finished the season 21-8, and Michigan was 25-13.
