PORTLAND, Maine (Ticker) -- Akron Aeros catcher Victor Martinez and Harrisburg Senators righthander Josh Karp were named the Eastern League Player and Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Martinez hit .600 (6-for-10) with a home run and a pair of RBI during three games last week. He had two doubles, scored five runs and posted a stunning 1.100 slugging percentage and an equally impressive .667 on-base percentage. The 23-year-old went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI in a 7-3 win over Altoona on Friday. The following night, he added three hits, including a solo homer, and scored three runs in a 9-0 shutout of the Curve. Karp, the sixth overall selection in the 2001 draft, pitched six scoreless innings and allowed just one hit to get the win as the Senators slipped by Reading, 2-0, on Friday. He fanned the first four batters he faced and finished with a career-high 10 batters in all. He issued just one walk.
