Riggs, Hendrickson Take Southern League Honors

MARIETTA, Georgia (Ticker) -- Jacksonville Suns shortstop Eric Riggs and Huntsville Stars righthander Ben Hendrickson on Friday were named Southern League Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Riggs hit .429 (9-for-21) with three homers and nine RBI in six games. He drew four walks, which helped lead to a .500 on-base percentage and his .952 slugging percentage was aided by a pair of doubles.

Riggs highlighted his week by going 3-for-4 with a pair of homers, seven RBI and three runs scored in a 13-1 route of Huntsville on Wednesday. The 26-year-old was a 1998 fourth-round pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Hendrickson went 1-0 and did not allow a run in any of his two starts during the week. He yielded just four hits while striking out seven and issuing nine walks in 12 innings.

The 21-year-old Hendrickson pitched six innings in each outing, the last resulting in a 1-0 victory over the Suns on Thursday. Hendrickson improved 1-2 with a 2.45 ERA in six games since joining the club from Class A High Desert.
