By Kevin Winter SportsTicker Staff Writer BOSTON (Ticker) -- The New Britain Rock Cats own a 4-2 record over their last six games with three of their four wins coming in extra innings. The extra-inning streak began on July 20 when New Britain swept a doubleheader from the Trenton Thunder. Second baseman Kevin Connacher hit a three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Rock Cats to 4-2 victory in the opening game. It was 10th home run of the season for the 27-year-old. The next day, second baseman Ruben Salazar doubled home a pair of runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift New Britain past Trenton, 10-9. First baseman Justin Morneau finished off the week with a two-out, RBI double in the bottom of the 11th inning for a 3-2 win over the Norwich Navigators on July 24. Prior to their recent success in the extra frames, the Rock Cats had owned just a 1-3 record. Minor League Highlights ----------------------- Carolina (Class AA-Southern League) outfielder Matt Holliday became just the second player in the Southern League to score five runs in a game this season during a 12-3 win over the Tennessee Smokies on July 21. Holliday, who drew a walk, went 4-for-4 with a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Two nights later, his eighth-inning, two-run triple beat Chattanooga, 6-4. Jacksonville (Class AA-Southern League) shortstop Eric Riggs finished 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and a career-high seven RBI in the Suns' 13-1 triumph over Huntsville on July 24. Riggs hit a bases-clearing double and scored to highlight a five-run bottom of the first inning, delivered a sacrifice fly in the third and belted a two-run shot in the fifth. In the seventh, he crushed his seventh longball of the season to homer twice in a contest for the first time since 1999. Wichita (Class AA-Texas League) first baseman Chan Perry went 5-for-6 with a home run and six RBI in the Wranglers' 17-8 victory over El Paso on July 21. Perry had four singles and a grand slam. Streaking --------- Mobile (Class AA-Southern League) lefthander Cliff Bartosh extended his scoreless streak to 18 1/3 innings in the BayBears' 6-3 victory over Orlando on July 24 with one shutout inning. Bartosh, who recorded 10 saves in 12 games from June 25-July 24, allowed just 10 hits while striking out 19 batters and walking three over his scoreless innings streak. Lowlights --------- El Paso (Class AA-Texas League) righthander Andrew Good, who entered the contest with a 9-0 record and a 2.40 ERA over his last 12 appearances, gave up nine runs -- two earned -- and nine hits over two innings in a 17-8 loss to Wichita on July 21. Harrisburg (Class AA-Eastern League) lefthander Brent Billingsley allowed eight runs, nine hits and one walk over two innings in a 13-7 loss at Altoona July 24. Billingsley was 0-4 with a 10.23 ERA in his six games since joining the club from Class AAA Ottawa (22 IP, 37 H, 28 R, 25 ER, 9 BB, 26 SO). Huntsville (Class AA-Southern League) righthander Paul Stewart was shelled for nine runs -- eight earned -- and 11 hits with four walks in five frames to suffer a 13-1 loss to Jacksonville on July 24.
