By Kevin Winter SportsTicker Staff Writer BOSTON (Ticker) -- There used to be a time when a two-homer game would give you the headline in the baseball section of every newspaper in the country. Not anymore. But two home runs in an inning? That is something worth noting. Toledo Mud Hens first baseman Eric Munson belted a pair of homers during an eight-run second inning in an 8-0 victory over Rochester on Wednesday. The 24-year-old Munson, selected third overall by Detroit in the 1999 draft, led off the inning with a solo shot and capped the scoring with a three-run blast, giving him 22 long balls on the season, tied for third in the league. Munson became the second minor leaguer to accomplish the feat this season, joining Juan Richardson, who belted a pair for Clearwater of the Class A Florida State League on June 23. Munson is the first player in the International League to hit two home runs in one inning since the 1996 season. MINOR LEAGUE HIGHLIGHTS Edmonton (Pacific Coast League) second baseman Jay Canizaro hit a game-winning home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to propel the Trappers to a 5-2 win and doubleheader sweep of the New Orleans on July 20. Two nights later, he singled in two runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat New Orleans, 4-3. Louisville (International League) catcher Jesse Levis delivered a game-winning three-run homer in bottom of the ninth inning, lifting the Bats past the Durham Bulls, 5-3, on July 22. Richmond (International League) outfielder Bo Porter tripled in the game-winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Braves an 8-7 victory over Toledo on July 22. Porter had three hits. Three nights earlier, Porter led off the 11th with a walk and eventually scored on a passed ball in a 2-1 win over the Mud Hens. TOP PITCHING PERFORMANCES Calgary (Pacific Coast League) righthander Kevin Olsen spun a three-hit shutout to help the Cannons blank Nashville, 2-0, on July 22. Olsen issued a walk and fanned five batters, improving to 1-2 with a 2.67 ERA in four starts with Calgary. The 25-year-old retired the first six batters and 13 of the final 14 in the second shutout of his career. Selected by the Marlins in 1998, Olsen finished first in the Eastern League last season with 1.16 walks per nine innings. STREAKING Edmonton (Pacific Coast League) righthander Scott Randall won his 11th consecutive decision in the Trappers' 4-3 victory over New Orleans on July 22. Randall allowed two earned runs, seven hits and a walk while fanning two batters in his fifth career complete game, improving to 11-0 in 19 appearances this season. The 6-3, 200-pound hurler has the third longest streak of its kind in the minors this season behind Joe Roa (14) and Kirk Saarloos (12). Randall owns the longest winning streak in the PCL since Manny Aybar won 10 straight decisions for Memphis in 1998. Toledo (International League) righthander Nate Cornejo won his fifth consecutive start in a 9-4 triumph over Columbus on July 18. Cornejo allowed four runs -- three earned -- and eight hits over six innings. It was the most runs allowed by Cornejo since June 4, when he was touched for seven in 4 2/3 innings. The 22-year-old is 7-0 with a 2.43 ERA in eight starts since June 9, matching righthander Brian Powell for the longest winning streak on the club this season.
