VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- Chris Dunwell and Jared Burton on Saturday combined to toss the first no-hitter in the short-season Northwest League since 1993 as the Vancouver Canadians blanked the Spokane Indians, 8-0. In his third start of the season, the 22-year-old Dunwell (1-2) issued a pair of walks and struck out two over five innings for his first win as a professional. A 15th-round pick in last month's draft, Dunwell retired the side in order in the fifth, extending his scoreless streak to 11 2/3 innings. Opponents are hitting just .149 against him. The San Diego State product received defensive help from left fielder Austin Nagle. With one on in the fourth, Nagle made a diving catch to rob Indians designated hitter Trey Dyson. Burton, selected seven rounds before Dunwell out of South Carolina, made his fifth relief appearance in nine games this year and allowed one walk, striking out six in four innings to earn his first save. The 6-5, 220-pound righthander recorded a pair of strikeouts in both the sixth and seventh innings and induced a flyout from each of the final two batters to complete Vancouver's first no-hitter since joining the league in 2000.
