OXFORD, Miss. (AP) Mississippi basketball coach Rod Barnes signed a one-year contract extension Friday that runs through 2006. Barnes signed a four-year contract after the 2001 season, during which he led the Rebels to a school-record 27 victories and won the Naismith Award as national coach of the year. Barnes is 86-46 in four seasons with three NCAA tournament appearances. The 86 victories are the most by an Ole Miss coach in his first four seasons. "In addition to coach Barnes' obvious commitment to the University of Mississippi, I think this agreement demonstrates the university's commitment to Rod and his family," athletic director Pete Boone said. The Rebels were 20-11 last season, losing to UCLA in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
